Hello, all, I'm sure you are, like the rest of the world, watching with dismay what is happening in Afghanistan right now. I've been looking for different links to relief programs and general ways to help and came across this list on Twitter. https://twitter.com/AriaAber/status/1427338977581813776?s=20 I'd urge you to look closely through the links before deciding to donate, if you do, but it feels like a start. There are also multiple ways to get involved. Here is the direct link to the document in the tweet. Be well, Mina

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend this tonight, and it was live streamed so you can enjoy it as well! Lincoln Center commissioned a joint piece from the Indian raga tradition and the Arabic maqam tradition - so you'll see so many wonderful instruments we learned about as well as the lessons we got from Kiran Ahluwalia, Parul Shah, Dr. Samer Ali, and Dr. Ben-Amor. Enjoy! Tf'adal!

Just putting the link to the performance that Joey shared in that chat because I'm sure I want to watch this later!

Several years ago, I worked with International Rescue Committee and their Refugee Youth Summer Academy, and we had a lovely visit from Syrian musician, Kinan Azmeh, which NPR came to cover. Thought you might enjoy a short soundbyte: https://www.npr.org/2017/08/27/546174501/kinan-azmeh-brings-the-magic-of-music-to-summer-camp-for-refugee-children

I had no idea this garden was Persian-inspired, but I have several images of when I visited many years ago...

I just wanted to share some curated lists that I've been using to explore more voices from the Muslim-majority regions and the Arabic-speaking world. https://www.teachingbooks.net/qltm9fu https://www.teachingbooks.net/ql48bw2 Please feel free to add others if you have recommendations!

Hello, all, If you're looking for a fantastic exhibit on modest fashion (I just learned the term at the exhibit), the Cooper Hewitt Museum on the UES is hosting a first-ever exhibit. It was incredible. I cannot speak highly enough of the variety, the issues, the visual presentation...tickets to the museum are currently free, but they do need to be reserved in advance. https://www.cooperhewitt.org/channel/contemporary-muslim-fashions/ Here was a little treat I discovered there. This one was also playing, but has no sound. Nonetheless, #Mipsterz is worth looking up. (A little background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM2Lsd-hanE)
