My name is Kristy Saldaña and my pronouns are She/Her/Hers. I am a Social Studies Middle School teacher in the Bronx, New York, where I've been living for the past two years. I'm originally from New Jersey and received my MAT only two years ago, so I am most excited to learn from new and veteran teachers!
I currently have the most wonderful group of 93 Seventh-Graders that love to Rick-roll me any chance they get. I always get them back during their birthdays by horribly singing a minions version of the Happy Birthday song! They are obsessed with What Would You Do (WWYD), Baamboozle, and Tik-Tok so I try to incorporate those elements in my lessons as often as I can. Most of my students are remote, so I have never met them in person and my biggest wish is to be able to do that before they graduate middle school.
I am of Puerto Rican-Dominican background and was raised in Puerto Rico until the age of 9. In college, I converted/reverted to Islam and just celebrated my third Eid Al-Fitr!! I recently got engaged to my partner of 4 years, who is a Medical Student in Brooklyn. I enjoy dancing traditional Latinx dances (Bachata, merengue, salsa), I have visited 12 countries around the world, and am a big fan of the Harry Potter series (books and movies)! I also think that the Cursed Child is the best play ever made.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and having some great discussions!
